Bombarded with too much information and dealing with an undulating flurry of emotions during the lockdown, a dear friend and I were having a conversation about what is and what will be. After we hung up, I had my sunscreen moment and wrote myself some advice in the form of prose that holds true for her, for me and for so many of us. Here it goes.
Have a lemonade.
If there is one piece of advice I can give in all of this chaos, lemonade it would be. The benefits of lemonade have been proven over time, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis beyond my own kaleidoscope of experience.
Watch the news every day, but know, the guy on the camera is doing his job, Ask-are you doing yours? …and the job here is beyond what you do for a living.
Spend as much time as possible with your family, they are not a distraction. This time will be over soon and you will wish for some more time with those who love you most
Stretch and keep your body fit, lack of space is a lame excuse
Stretch and keep your mind fit, busy-ness is a lamer excuse
There are a lot of people, who are going to want to tell you how to work from home, how to get virtual and what the future will look like, know your future will be what you make of it and it always has been.
Watch your fear as it creeps up your mind and heart and then make friends with it. It’s ok to be afraid. After all, it’s not every day that more than half of the world is shut down in one swoop.
Never a better time to remind ourselves through this adapted adage ‘Plan like you are invincible, know that you are not’. So, follow expert advice.
The recovery could be L or U or V, what is important is to remember what you LUV to do and get better at it.
You may disregard all that I have said but trust me on the lemonade
After all, in times like these when life gives you lemons, that is the least you can do- Have a lemonade.
